What LTL shipping is

Less-than-truckload means your freight shares a trailer with other shippers' freight, and you pay for the space you use. It is the right service for one to roughly ten pallets, or anything too big for parcel and too small to fill a truck. Freight moves through the carrier's terminal network, so transit runs a little longer than a dedicated truck and the price is a fraction.

How Truxweb works

  1. Step 1

    Quote

Enter pickup and delivery postal codes, pallet count, weight and dimensions. Quotes come back from the carriers that serve that lane, each showing transit time and the carrier's rating.

  2. Step 2

    Book

Choose a carrier and confirm. Your bill of lading is generated for you and the carrier is dispatched.

  3. Step 3

    Track

Pickup, in transit and delivered, from your dashboard, in English or French.

  4. Step 4

    Pay

One invoice from Truxweb for every shipment, whichever carriers moved them.

Where we ship

Quebec and Ontario are the core of the network: Montreal, Quebec City, the Eastern Townships, Ottawa–Gatineau, the Greater Toronto Area and southwestern Ontario. From there, carriers on Truxweb run east to the Maritimes and Newfoundland, west to Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia, and across the border to the northeastern United States and California.

What LTL costs in Canada

LTL is priced on weight, dimensions, distance and the services you add. Canadian carriers generally rate on dimensional (volumetric) weight rather than the US freight-class system, so accurate measurements matter more than what the goods are. Fuel surcharge is added at the carrier's current rate. Residential delivery, tailgate (liftgate), inside delivery and appointment windows are add-ons. Typical price bands by lane are on the LTL rates in Canada page.

Carriers you can see before you book

Every carrier on Truxweb is screened for compliance, insurance and service history, and rated by the shippers who use it. The rating sits next to each quote. 30+ carriers are active on the network today, from regional Quebec specialists to national LTL fleets. See the carrier network.

Credit terms

Yes, 100%. Truxweb offers up to 10 days credit after your first 3 shipments. You can also pay with your credit card.

There is no subscription commitment: if the platform is not for you, you stop using it.

Who ships with Truxweb

Manufacturers, distributors, printers and e-commerce businesses in Quebec and Ontario that ship a few pallets a week and do not have a logistics department. If you are calling three carriers for every shipment today, or paying a broker to do it, this is what Truxweb replaces. See marketplace vs broker.

LTL or full truckload?

Under about ten pallets, LTL. Above that, or for time-critical and high-value loads, a dedicated truck (FTL). Truxweb quotes both. For regular full loads between Quebec and Ontario, talk to us.
